A six-month pregnant mother was shot dead by some robbers at Rangmahal village in Chakaria upazila on Friday.
The victim was identified as Sarmin Akhtar Nilufa, 26, wife of Sirajul Islam a son of a businessman of the upazila.
A group of robbers numbering six-seven equipped with firearms entered a house of Syed Ahmed Shawdagar, the local businessman, at the village at around 2am, said Provath Chandra Dhar, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station.
The robbers took 10 bhories of gold ornaments and Tk 3 lakh in cash away from the house and fired two rounds of bullets when residents of the house refused them to give their valuables easily, the OC said.
