An elderly woman was killed by armed robbers and another was injured at Sadhanpur village under Banshkhali upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Bojoya Das, 60 and the injured was her daughter-in-law Turna Das.
Police said a gang of armed robbers broke into the house of Bijoya around 3.30am and started to beat up Turna for talking gold ornaments and cash money.
“As Bijoya tried to stop them and said she could identify the robbers, they chopped her with sharp weapons and fled away, leaving her dead on the spot”, police added.
Later, the locals rushed in and sent Turna to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
