Robber shot in Jessore gunfight

An alleged robber was shot and wounded in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Mahamudpur in Bagherpara upazila of Jessore district on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Abdul Karim.
Qaiyum Ali Shikdar, officer-in-charge of Bagherpara Police Station, said tipped off that a gang of robbers was staying in Mahamudpur for committing robbery in a jewellery shop at Charabhita Bazar of the upazila, a team of police conducted a drive in the area at about 11:30 pm.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers hurled some crude bombs at police. In retaliation, police opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight that left Karim injured with bullet.
Later, police arrested seven robbers, including bullet-hit Karim, from the spot.
Karim was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Police recovered a shutter gun, two crude bombs, some home-made sharp weapons and one round of bullet from the scene. A case was filed in this connection.
