An alleged ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Enayetpur area of district town early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mostafa, a ringleader of a robber gang in the district and accused in several cases including those over robbery.
On information of robbery attack on the house of local local Arjun Kumar, a patrol team of the elite force surrounded the house around 3.30am, said additional SP Mahiuddin Farooqi, Commander of RAB-12.
Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the robbers opened fire at them and hurled two hand bombs towards them, leaving two RAB men injured and prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
The gunfight left Mostafa dead on the spot.
The law enforcer also detained 10 robbers along with one foreign pistol, 1 magazine, 3 firearms, four locally made sharp weapons and different robbery equipments and goods including cash Tk and gold ornaments.
The injured RAB members are lance corporal Zia and constable Najmul. They were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
