An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Dighalia Dokkhinpara village in Lohagora upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Rakib,30, son of Mokles Hossain, a resident of Chanchai village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Lohagora Police Station Biplob Kumar Saha said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking
preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive there at about 2:30 am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rakib injured with bullets.
Rakib was rushed to Lohagora upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.
However, other associates of the robber gang managed to flee the scene.
Rakib was wanted in 12 cases, including for robbery, the OC added.
