`Robber` killed in Keraniganj `gunfight`

UNB, Keraniganj :A suspected robber was killed and two others were injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police atPar Gendaria Satpathi in South Keraniganj early Sunday.The deceased was identified as Yusuf,35, son of late Ayub Ali, a resident of Hajar Bigha village of Dohar upazila, while the injured as Ismael,29, son of Abdul Jalil Sarder, a resident of Madhya Matoali village in Goshaihat upazila of Shariatpur, and Sohrab,30, son of Abdul Halim, a resident of Awliabad village in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district.Sub-inspector of Keraniganj Model Police Station Obaidul said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area while a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery there at about 1:45 am. Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight, leaving three members of the robber gang injured with bullets.Later, police arrested the injured while their other associates managed to flee the scene. Of the injured, Yusuf was rushed to Mitford Hospital where he succumbed to his injures at about 3:30 am.Police also recovered three firearms and two rounds of bullet from the spot. Manirul Islam, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station, said the trio were members of an inter-district robber gang.They were wanted in several cases, including for murder and robbery, the OC added.
