A member of a robber gang allegedly killed in a gunfight with police on the Magura-Satruzitpur road at Mandartala in Sadar upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Uzzal Hossain, 37, son of Awal Hossain, a resident of Chandpur village of the same upazila. Sadar Police Station assistant superintendent of police Sudarshan Kumar Roy said a gang of robbers opened fire at a patrol team of police in the area around 1:00am.
As the police retaliated with gunfire, a gunfight took place between the two sides, leaving alleged robber Uzzal dead and three cops injured on the spot. The injured policemen were taken to Sadar Hospital.
A case was filed in this connection.
