‘Robber’ killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber was killed and another injured in what Detective Branch (DB) of police termed a gunfight between its members and cohorts of the deceased in Palpara area of sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Zira Sumon. He was accused in 21 cases with Kotwali Model Police Station.
Inspector Mahbubur Rahman of Comilla district DB police said a team of DB police led by additional police super Ali Ashraf was returning to their office after conducting a drive in Brahmanpara upazila at around 3am.
When they reached Palpara Bridge area, a gang of robbers numbering 8-10 obstructed the vehicle.
Sensing the presence of police in the vehicle, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, which triggered a gunfight.
Khokan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, while his another associate also received bullet injuries. However, four police personnel were also injured during the gunfight. They were given first aid.
DB also arrested three other robbers from the spot. They also recovered one revolver, three LGs, and several local firearms from the spot. The injured robber was admitted to Comilla Medical College and Hospital.
