An alleged robber was killed and three people, including two policemen, were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Hasanpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Daudkandi upazila early Monday.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.
Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said a gang of robbers intercepted a Cox’s Bazar-bound private car from Dhaka on the highway at about 3:00 am.
The robbers opened fire on Tajel Barua, driver of the car, while he was trying to flee the scene.
At that time, a team of police which was on patrol in the area obstructed the gang of robbers who fired shots at them, leaving sub-inspector (SI) Atikur Rahman and constable Yusuf bullet-hit.
Police in retaliation fired back leaving a robber also bullet-hit. The injured robber was rushed to Gouripur Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead. A case was filed in this connection.
