A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Hazipur village in Kashba upazila early Saturday.
Police arrested Zahirul Islam alias Kala Zahir from Kamalpur village and then conducted a drive there with him to capture his cohorts as well, said Mohiuddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kashba Police Station.
As the police were raiding the village, his cohorts opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the ‘gunfight’, leaving Zahir dead on the spot. The body of Zahir, an accused in six cases, was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police also claimed that they recovered a pipegun from the spot.
