Road-waterway blockade in Bandarban continues

The indefinite road-waterway blockade, enforced by the Sadar upazila unit Awami League demanding release of an abducted AL leader, in four upazilas of the district, is progressing on the second consecutive day on Thursday.
The blockaders put up barricade on the Bandarban-Dhaka-Chittagong, Bandarban-Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban-Rangamati roads by placing logs and torching tyres in the morning.
No long route buses left from Sadar, Rowangchhari, Ruma and Thanchi upazilas during the programme.
Earlier on Wednesday, leaders of the district unit AL at a meeting announced to call off the road-waterway blockade in Lama, Alikadam and Naikhongchhari upazilas for the sake of people while the blockade in four upazilas remained in force.
On June 13, miscreants picked up Mong Pru Marma, joint convener of Sadar upazila unit Awami League from Jamchhari Para.
A case was filed against 36 people in connection with the incident.
Later, the Sadar Upazila Unit Awami League called an indefinite road-waterway blockade in the district from Wednesday demanding release of their leader.
AKM Jahangir, vice-president of District unit AL, said the road-waterway blockade will continue until the release of their leader.
Police on Wednesday arrested a man for his suspected involvement in the kidnap.
