Road accidents have been increasing alarmingly on the roads of greater Khulna due to plying unfit vehicles, unskilled drivers who drive their vehicles recklessly, unprofessional drivers, faulty vehicles, lack of consciousness of traffic division and alleged corruptions of the concerned departments, according to experts.
Sources said, so many vehicles which are unfit and approval less have been plying by some unskilled drivers on the roads of greater Khulna and as such road accidents are increasing alarmingly in this region. But no proper step was taken still for reducing the road accidents. Due to lack of coordination between the ministry and the local government authorities, this problem could not be solved, according to experts.
At last, a five year old baby was killed for the road accident occurred on February 22 on the high way at By pass in Arongghata area in Khulna city. Earlier, two students were injured severely on Khulna-Gopalganj high way.

Owners of most of the vehicles are some influential persons and as such Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and the traffic division can not take necessary actions in spite of having wills, sources said.
Not only in the high ways but also in the roads of the divisional city Khulna , dilapidated town services trucks have been plying for a long time. At least fifty percent vehicles of Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts are unfit for plying on the roads and drivers and helpers of these vehicles are responsible for road accidents, sources said.
On the other hand, the authorities of BRTA and traffic division of police are blaming each other in respect of plying unfit vehicles by unskilled drivers.
BRTA sources said, 52 percent vehicles which came to them were given approval and the rest 48 percent were not given approval. Around 20 lakh vehicles are plying on the roads of Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts.
