Borhanuddin Pourashava is a neglected southern coastal town of Bhola district in Bangladesh.
The city dwellers of this small town perennially hope for a planned city through the infrastructure and environmental development. Usable road, clean city, sewerage, pure drinking water, healthy livelihood, sports and entertainment, etc, facilities are inadequate, hence remains an expectation of the citizens.
Although, it is a big challenge to deliver these services by managing the urbanization pressure yet Borhanuddin Pourashava is working hard to materialize the hope of the poura dwellers.
Along with this, the PS has taken initiatives of substantial infrastructure development activity, aiming to implement the GoB’s vision 2021.
Third Urban Governance and Infrastructure Improvement Project (UGIIP-3), implemented by LGED of MoLGRD’c has been giving assistance to execute these activities. In the fiscal year 2016-17, the PS has taken initiatives to construct 7.4 KM road and 1.4 KM drain with a cost of approx. Tk 8. 30 crores with the project assistance.
PS was somewhat hasty in addressing the prerequisites for improvement on the governance fronts. As well, it had to remain committed to fulfill certain conditions for inclusion into the project umbrella through changing most of the traditional attitudes and practicing of governance improvement for an applicable period. Consequently, Borhanuddin PS successfully got included among the ‘Top 20’ list on the basis of ‘performance’ through a competition involving100 Pourashavas under the ‘window-B’ of the project.
Mayor of the Borhanuddin PS said that the Government has taken initiative for executing laudable development activities on the basis of public demand. He as well added that it so far such large- scale development work were never taken up before in this PS. In as much he pointed out that after completing these works, the improved situation will reduce the long time sufferings of poura dwellers through communication development and removal of the water logging. More so, the current Poura Parishad is committed towards farther development and its continuation.
