Road crashes kill 9 in 5 dists

At least nine people were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Munshiganj and Jhenidah districts on Friday.
In Gazipur, two people were killed and five others injured when a truck rammed a human-hauler (Tempo) on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Kaliakoir upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Joynal Abedin, 55, and Wahid, 40.
Witnesses said the accident took place in Kharajora
area of the upazila at about 8am when the truck hit the Chandra-bound tempo from behind, leaving seven people injured.
Of the injured, Joynal and Wahid died on the way to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex. In Rajshahi, two people were killed as a pick-up crashed into a truck at Shabdipur in Godagari upazila in the morning. The deceased were identified as pick-up driver Shahidul Islam, 35, and Farhad, 30.
Sub-inspector of Godagari Model Police Station Ruhul Amin said the newspaper-carrying Chapainawabganj-bound pick-up from Bogra hit the truck from behind when its driver lost control over the steering around 8 am, leaving the duo dead on the spot and another injured. The injured, Jafar Iqbal, helper of the pick-up driver, was admitted to Godagari upazila health complex.
In Chittagong, two auto-rickshaw passengers-Toyeb Ali, 45, and Munshi Miah, 40, of Chandanish upazila-were killed and three other people injured as a pick-up collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Shrimai Bridge in Patiya upazila in the morning.
Officer-in-charge of Patiya Police Station Mafijuddin confirmed the incident, saying the bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
In Munshiganj, two auto-rickshaw passengers died on the spot and four others injured when a watermelon-laden truck crashed into the vehicle carrying them on Dhaka-Mawa Highway at Bhuichidra in Sreenagar upazila in the morning.
