Road crashes claim 14 lives including 5 women

At least 14 people, including five women, were killed in several road crashes across the country on Wednesday.
In Bogura, five people, including a woman, were killed and at least 10 others injured when a bus rammed an auto-rickshaw in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred in Mirzapur Ambagan area on the Dhaka-Bogura Highway around 5 pm.
Identities of the deceased could not be known instantly.
Sherpur Fire Service and Civil Defence official Nader Hossain confirmed the matter to the media saying that a bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ struck a auto-rickshaw in Mirzapur Ambagan area, leaving five passengers of the rickshaw dead on the spot and 10 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, he added.
Sherpur Highway Police Camp in-Charge Baniul Anam said they seized the bus but its driver and his assistant managed to flee.
In Nilphamari, four women passengers of an auto rickshaw were killed and five others injured in a collision between a auto-rickshaw and a commuter train in Nilphamari on Wednesday (January 26) morning.
The incident took place around 7:30 am at Daroyani Railway level crossing in Nilphamari sadar upazila.
All deceased were workers of Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
The victims were identified as Shahera Khatun (35), Romana (34), Shefali (32) and Minara Begum (25) from Dhanipara village in Sonara of the district. Among them, Shefali died on the spot, two others died on the way to Nilphamari General Hospital and after being taken to Rangpur Medical College.
Among five injured, three are undergoing treatment
at Rangpur Medical and the rest at Nilphamari General Hospital. Confirming the matter, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Amir Ali said that there is a level crossing on the Nilphamari-Saidpur Railway. All the workers of Uttara EPZ were going to work by an Auto-rickshaw. The Chilahati-bound Intercity Simanta Express train from Khulna pushed the Auto-rickshaw as it was crossing the Level Crossing in dense fog.
It may be mentioned that on December 8, last year, four people including three siblings of the same family were killed when a train derailed at Bou-bazar Mansapara in Kundapukur Union of Nilphamari Sadar.
In Barisal, at least two students were killed and two others injured when a passenger bus rammed them on their way to get vaccinated against corona virus.
The deceased were identified as Redwan Fakir,16, and Antar Bepari, 17.
The accident took place on Wednesday morning in front of Barthi Tara Secondary School on the Barisal-Dhaka highway.
In Jhenaidah, a college teacher named Mohidul Islam (50) was killed when a truck hit him near the Madhabpur cattle market on Gopalpur road in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila around 12 noon on Wednesday (January 26). The deceased was a resident of Jalalpur village under Kotchandpur upazila and also teacher of the Social Welfare Department of Ganna Alhaj Mashiur Rahman Degree College.
In Keraniganj (Dhaka), at least two people including pedestrian Jalaluddin (65) and motor bike rider were killed when they were hit by a motorcycle in Rohitpur area of Keraniganj on Wednesday night.
In Faridpur, a motorcyclist named Farhan (25) was killed and another injured when they were hit by a truck in Tepakhola Lekpar area of the city on Tuesday night.
