UNB, Dhaka: Five people were killed and three others injured in a collision between a bus and pick-up van on Khulna-Mawa highway in Foltita area of Fakirhat upazila on Friday noon. The deceased were identified as Shyem Das, 32, son of Suvash Dash, Nil Komol Das, 45, Boloram Das, 32, son of Kesto Das, Panu Das Gosai, 47, son of Kartik Das, all were resident of Dohazari village of the upazila and Sheikh Ansar Ali, 45, driver of the pick-up van. The accident took place when the Gopalganj-bound bus crashed into the Fakirhat-bound pick-up van around 2:30pm, leaving five people dead on the spot and three other injured, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Fakirhat police station. The injured were first taken to Fakirhat health complex and them shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as their condition was deteriorated. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. Jahangir Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat district also visited the spot.
