Four people were killed and 50 others injured as a bus plunged into a ditch at Meherpur Government College intersection in the district town on Thursday morning. The deceased were identified as Mehedi, 20, Shariful, 45, Sirajul, 48 and Shanto Police and witnesses said the Meherpur town-bound bus of “ Rawshan Enterprise’’ from Kushtia skidded off the road and fell into the ditch after its driver lost control over the steering at about 10:30am, leaving four people –two passengers, a helper and a pedestrian — dead on the spot and 50 others injured. The injured were taken to Meherpur General Hospital. Of the injured, the condition of 8-10 people was stated to be critical. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the same hospital morgue for autopsy. — UNB, Meherpur.
