Most of the areas of Chittagong, including low-lying areas of port city remained inundated on Tuesday following heavy torrential rains. Meanwhile, the road communications of Chittagong with Bandarban, Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar were disrupted as rain water submersed the roads at many places. Sources said, the sufferings of the people of Chittagong, the second largest city of the country know no bound due to the water logging for monsoon rain.
Heavy downpour has disrupted the normal life of the people of Chittagong for consecutive three days. The heavy rainfall is likely to be continued. The local meteorological department advised to hoist the signal number 3 for Chittagong and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, the low-lying areas of the port city have gone under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours. So the inhabitants of those low-lying areas remained stranded.Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) A J M Nasir Uddin visited several areas during the rain and observed the water logging in the city.
The heavy shower affected the normal life of the city. The streets looked vacant, as the movement of vehicles and the pedestrians was negligible due to heavy shower. The sea remained rough due to the monsoon rain.
The downpour starting from Sunday continued for consecutive three days. Most of the areas of Chittagong, including low-lying areas of the port city inundated on Tuesday. CCC and CMP are continuing the propaganda to shift the hill side people to a safe shelter.
According to local meteorological department Chittagong experienced a heavy rainfall on Tuesday. As a result, the drains and canals of the city and all rivers of the district were full to the brim of rainwater causing inundation of the low-lying areas by overflow. Besides, the Dalu, Sangu, Halda and Karnaphuli rivers were full to the brim of floodwater caused by the torrential rainfall.
