Road accidents kill 6 in three districts

At least six people were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Habiganj and Cumilla.
In Tangail: Two people were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a pick-up van in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Friday, police said, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Ramzan Ali, 55, the auto-rickshaw driver from Uttar Betdoba village, and one of its occupants-Rina, 30, from Bir Basina village of the upazila.
The accident occurred on Friday morning in front of RS Government Pilot High School.
According to witnesses, the auto-rickshaw heading towards the Kalihati bus stand was hit at high speed by the pick-up van coming from the opposite side, leaving its driver and the female passenger dead on the spot.
The injured were all passengers of the auto-rickshaw. “Two of them have been admitted to Tangail General Hospital in a critical condition, while others are being treated at Kalihati Upazila Health Complex,” said Molla Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kalihati police station.
Both the ill-fated vehicles have been seized, but the pick-up van driver managed to flee, said the OC. “The bodies will be handed over to the family members of the deceased after completion of the legal process.”
In Habiganj: Two youths were killed after a pick-up van hit their motorcycle in Belgharh area in Madabpur upazila on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as Jubayer Al Hasan Jami, 23, son of Anwar Mollah and Rajib Ahmed, 25, son of Raiz Uddin, both hailed from Manikganj.
Quoting eyewitness, police said the pick-up van collided with the Sylhet-bound motorcycle coming from the opposite direction on Thursday afternoon, leaving Rajib and Jami injured.
Later, they were brought to Habiganj 250 bed Adhunik District Sadar Hospital where duty doctors sent them to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. But they succumbed to their injuries on the way to Dhaka at 1:30am.
In Cumilla: A couple was killed after a vehicle rammed their motorcycle from behind while they were going to their village home on Kotbari Biswaroad area on Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 52, of Kushiyar in Daudkandi and his wife Sharifa Akter, 42.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Crossing Police Station Belal Uddin Jahangir confirmed the matter.
