Road accidents kill 13, injured 55

RMG workers create anarchy on Dhaka-Ctg highway in N'ganj

At least 13 people were killed and 55 others injured in separate road crashes across the country, including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Rangpur and Bogra, on Saturday. The injured people were admitted to different local hospitals immediately.
In Narayanganj, several hundred agitated workers of different readymade garment (RMG) factories demonstrated the on the Dhaka Chittagong highway following the death of a RMG worker in a road accident in Narayanganj district.
A large number of workers from some local factories demonstrated on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway for four hours receiving the death news of Md Aman Ullah, 27, a worker of Chaiti garment factory at Treepardi in Sonargaon upazila around 7:30am.
A Dhaka-bound bus of Swadesh Paribahan hit him and fell into a ditch beside the road that injured at least 10 passengers. Protesting the accident, they set a bus afire and vandalized at least 20 vehicles.
The vehicular movment was suspended for few years.
A chase and counter chase took place between police and the workers. Law enforcers charged batons to disperse the aggrieved protesters, said M Kamrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station.
In capital, a woman was killed when a bus knocked her down at Wari in the afternoon. The victim was identified as Ayesha Akter, 60, hailing from Comilla district.  
Another woman was killed died when a bus of Suprobhat Paribahan struck her rickshaw in front of Hossain Market at Middle Badda in the early hours of the day. The deceased was identified as Mina Rani, 35, hailing from Sirajganj district.  
In Cox’s Bazar, at least two people were killed and seven others injured when a bus rammed them on Chokoria-Maheshkhali road in Chokoria upazila in the district in the afternoon.
The victims were identified as Obaidur Rahman, 15, and Manjurul Alam, 16, inhabitant of Maijgona village in the upazila, said Chokoria Police Station OC Probas Chandra Dhar.
The vehicles plunged into a ditch beside the road. Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee the scene, the OC said.
In Rangpur, a passenger was killed and 15 others injured when a bus plunged into a ditch from the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in the morning. The victim was identified as Jasim Uddin.
In Bogra, a sexagenarian woman was killed as a motorcycle hit her at Sariakandi upazila in the district. The victim was identified as Badhuli, 65.
In Munsiganj, at least 15 people received injuries in a head-on collision between two buses of Ilish Parbahan on the Dhaka-Mawya highway at Kuchia in Sirajdikhan upazila in the afternoon.
In Kishoreganj, a baby died when an auto-rickshaw ran over the kid on the Kishoreganj-Hossenpur Road at Rampurbazar in Hossenpur upazla in the morning. The victim was identified as Moumita Akter, 7, daughter of Manik Mia, hailing from Nandail of Mymensingh district.
At least 15 people received injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw on Barisal-Kuakata highway at Hatalia badhghat of Sadar upazila in the morning. The injured people were rushed to different local hospitals.
In Lalmonirhat, two motorcyclists were killed when a bus rammed their motorbike on Lalmonirhat-Patgram Road at Baura of Patgram upazila under in the afternoon.
The victims were identified as Twuhidur Rahman, 25, and Kamrul Alam, 16.
 In Gopaganj, a man was killed when a motorcycle ran over her at Babubazar of Muksudpur upazila in the district. The victim was identified as Rabiul Islam, 53.
In Barisal, an unidentified woman died in a road accident on Barisal-Galachipa highway near Kirttonkhola Bridge in Sadar upazila in the early hours of the day.
In Khulna, a ten-year girl was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sadar upazilain the afternoon. She was identified as Fatema akter, daughter of Shajahan Molla, ASI of Police.
