Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) yesterday inaugurated ‘Police Covid Oxygen Bank’ with 50 oxygen cylinders to provide free oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the district.
The bank was formally launched at RMP’s temporary headquarters at Shah Makhdum Police Station premises, reports our staff correspondent quoting the chief guest of the event, RMP Commissioner Md Abu Kalam Siddique.
Abu Kalam said, many hospitals and homes are often in need of oxygen tanks and for various reasons they fail to manage one. No other hospitals in Rajshahi, except Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, has a central oxygen supply. Considering all these aspects, RMP has taken this initiative, said the commissioner.
Police will provide oxygen cylinders for free to the people who are suffering from Covid-19, and are in need of oxygen, said Abu Kalam, adding that RMP will refill the tanks when needed and 50 more oxygen cylinders will be added in the bank soon.
RMP has also trained 10 staff members to handle the oxygen cylinders, and more will be trained if needed. General people can avail the service by calling RMP’s control room, he added.
“We took the initiative on behalf of the police members and the general people. And we want to stand by the people in the fight against coronavirus,” the RMP commissioner said.
