Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Assistant Commissioner Sabbir Ahmed Sarfaraz committed suicide, said doctors of Forensic Department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after conducting an autopsy on Sunday.
Earlier, the inquest report of the forensic department of RMCH also described the death of Sabbir as suicide.
A three-member board of RMCH Forensic Department, led by Barindra Medical College Prof Mansur Rahman, conducted the autopsy of Sabbir.
The two other members are-Islami Bank Medical College Prof Emdudur Rahman and assistant Prof. of Forensic Department Rajshahi Medical College, Enamul Haq.
After conducting the autopsy, Enamul Haq, said “a sign of synthetic rope was found on the neck of Sabbir and there was no other sign on his body and primarily it can be presumed that it is a suicidal case” However, details will be known after the autopsy report.
After the autopsy the body of Sabbir was taken to District Police Line premises where a guard of honour was given to him after his namaz-e-janaza. Later, the body than taken to his residence at Uposhohor in the city.
He will be buried at Tikapara graveyard after another namaz-e-janaza.
The assistant commissioner was found dead sitting on a sofa with a cord tied around his neck at RMP Officers Mess Hall. The body was noticed around 9 am Saturday.
Sabbir was a 31st batch Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre. He used to live in his own house at Upashahar along with his wife and daughter.
Sabbir’s father Obaidullah filed a case with Razpara Police Station on Saturday night, said senior assistant commissioner of Rajhshahi Metropolitan Police, Ifte Khayer Alam.
