Several hundred workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Ashulia under Gazipur district, on the outskirts of the city, staged demonstration on Tuesday morning protesting the termination of few workers and indefinite closing of the factory.
The agitated workers of ‘Sonia Fine Knit Ltd’ found the closing notice of the factory in the morning and began demonstration instantly, witnesses said.
The clash ensued between the law enforcers and the workers as the workers tried to enter the factory, police said.
The workers alleged that the police lobbed several teargas shells and beat up the workers to disperse them. Additional police have been deployed in the area.
But Ashulia Policed Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Badrul Alam said that no clash took place between the police and the workers.
