BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said, the repression rolled on by the government against the Ready Made Garments workers is sad and undemocratic.
He said, it is frustrating, sad and denied to the right to survive.
“One RMG worker named Sumon was killed at Savar when they were holding protest rally demanding fair wage. The incident proved that the government won’t tolerate any democratic programme even like protest rally,” the BNP Secretary General said it in a statement condemning the workers killing incident.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the workers are the driving power of the national economy, but the government was ridiculing their demand for fair wages. Even, the government is sorting atrocities to repress the workers.”
He said, the government is getting itself isolated after retaking power through widespread irregularities plagued general election held on December 30.
“The government is panicked by the fair wage demand of the RMG workers, as it (govt) has become isolated by the lopsided polls,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul urged all to accept the RMG workers fair wage.
He said, the country has fallen in deep crisis.
“It is the people’s unity that will lift the country from the crisis,” he said.
