UNB :
Workers of Padma Wears readymade garment (RMG) factory on Wednesday blocked the road adjacent to Chittagong EPZ demanding payment of wages.
According to the protestors, their employer shut down the factory and fled three months ago without paying the workers.
The movement of vehicles on the busy road came to a halt for two hours causing long tailbacks on both ends of the road. Shahida, one of the protestors, told UNB: “The owner of the factory shut down his business in February without paying our salaries. We requested BEPZA continuously for the last few months for a peaceful solution but we did not get any satisfactory response. We took to the streets seeing no other alternative.”
ASI of EPZ police station Sazed Kamal said the situation was resolved peacefully and movement of vehicles is currently back to normal.
