The workers of Cotton, Textile and Apparels blocked the main road of Mirpur-7 on Saturday morning in the capital to demand their salary and Eid bonus before Eid.
A good number of workers took to the street at 9am. At that time, vehicular movement from Mirpur-10 to 12 came to the halt, resulting in a lot of afflictions shouldered by the city residents.
Nonetheless, the garment workers withdrew their strike from the road and took position inside the mills around 12pm, with pledge to continue the strike if their salary and bonus are not disbursed before Eid.
Pallabi Thana Police Inspector (patrol) Afzal Hossain confirmed the matter to the media saying that the workers seized the roads in the morning for few
hours demanding arrears and Eid bonus.
Howbeit, in order to keep traffic movement on run, alernative arrangement was taken and the road was diverted from in front of the post office..
He added that efforts were being made to resolve the issue peacefully through negotiations with both sides. The Police Officer said that he was trying to remove them from the road and normalize the movement.
The management of the mills, despite efforts, could not be reached for their comment.
