Police recovered the body of a female garment worker from a septic tank of a house at Bhauraid Uttarpara area in the city on Saturday morning.
The deceased was Afroza, wife of one Shahjahan Chowdhury and an employee of ‘Shyamolu Garments’ in Salna area.
Locals spotted the body in the septic tank in the morning and informed police, said Samir Kumar, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Later, they recovered the body. Police suspected that Afroza’s husband Shahjahan, worker of a steel factory, might have strangled her to death and then hide the body inside the septic tank. Locals said, that the couple used to lock into quarrel as Shahjahan suspected that his wife had an extra-marital affair.
