A female garment worker who was beaten by her husband on Thursday died at a hospital in the municipality area here on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Kankon Rani Das, wife of Sukanta Das of Paharpur village under Baniachang upazila in Habiganj.
Kalipada Das, victim’s father, said Sukanta beat up his daughter mercilessly as she returned home late and put poison into her mouth.
Neighbors took her to Enam Medical College Hospital at night where she died on Friday morning, he said.
Nazmul, Sub-Inspector of Savar Model Police Station said police sent the body to ShaheedSuhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy and filed a case over the incident. Police are trying to arrest her husband who went into hiding last night, the SI added.
