Work is in full swing to set up a garment village at Bangabandhu Industrial City in Mirsarai. Work has already been completed to make some plots in the garment village suitable for setting up factories. If all goes well, the work of setting up a factory in the garment village of this largest economic zone of the country can be started by June this year. Entrepreneurs are dreaming anew around this unique garment village of Chittagong.
Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) General Manager (Investment ) Moniruzzaman said that the work of making a plot for a garment village in Bangabandhu Industrial City is nearing completion. We have written to three investors to transfer 18 acres of land. If they want, they can start setting up a factory there. Necessary gas, electricity and other utility services have been ensured for this. Ahmed Noor Faisal, managing director (MD) of Visual Knitwear, one of the investors, confirmed the receipt of the letter.
We will set up a fabric mill there. Where about 500 people will be employed. We will start setting up a fabric mill soon. However, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) authorities say that Beza has not yet been able to ensure water supply in Bangabandhu Industrial City. Once the water supply is ensured, the entrepreneurs of the readymade garment industry will be eager to start setting up factories in the garment villages.
Factories will be built quickly. In this regard, Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, vice -president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said water supply to the garment villages of Bangabandhu Industrial City has not been ensured yet. Work cannot be done without ensuring water supply. Once the water supply is assured, the entrepreneurs will be able to start setting up factories in this garment village, sources said.
