State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Tuesday asked the industries’ owners to pay salaries and allowances to their employees before the beginning of Eid holidays.
“We have requested the owners to pay all of their employees salaries and allowances by June 14, before the beginning of Eid holidays. We also requested them to pay a portion of their salaries for the month of June, if possible. However, it is not obligatory,” Mujibul Haque Chunnu said after attending a meeting on Crisis Management Core Committee at the Secretariat.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country either on June 16 or 17 after sighting the moon.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu also asked the highway police authorities for ensuring safety of the homebound workers on road during Eid holidays.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Rabbi Mia, BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman, Workers’ leader Sirajul Islam Rony, Roy Ramesh Chandra and representatives from the ministry, police, BGMEA and BKMEA were also present on the occasion.
