The “12th Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition” that concluded on Saturday witnessed a warm response amid political violence.
Many ready-made garment [RMG] entrepreneurs flocked to the exposition to learn about the latest technologies available in the sector.
“At the beginning we were worried about the success of the fair for on-going political turmoil. But we are happy to see the end of exposition with the participation of huge visitors, said Mansur Ahmed, spokesman of the fair and secretary of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), on Saturday.
The four-day Expo began on February 4 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city inaugurated by Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
BTMA organized the DTG -2015 with the help of Chan Chao International Co. Ltd, and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Co where around 880 exhibitors from 32 countries took part.
In the fair, the exhibitors displayed their state-of-the-art textile and garment machineries and introduced latest technologies in spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing-printing and textiles finishing etc.
Most of the exhibitors also held live demonstrations to attract potential customers.
“We have received huge orders. We have showcased both woven and knitting
machineries, which received enormous response from the well-known entrepreneurs in the sector,” said Alhaj Mohammad Ali, Chairman of the Sohel and Brothers, a local knitting company.
“I have come to the fair to know about the latest technologies in the sector as I intend to expand my factory. Since the exhibition is showcasing the latest machineries for textile and garment production, it helped us to choose the best one,” said Wahid Sadik of Associated Technology Ltd.
“A fair has always been an ideal place to make a right choice as we can find various products of different designs and quality under one roof,” said Mijanur Rahman Chowdhury, manager of SM Knitwear Limited.
“Here, we are also able to see live demonstration of the production system and quality of products produced by these new machines,” he added.
“We received good responses from the apparel manufacturers, but the outcome of the fair will depend on the political situation in the future,” Md Ashraful Kabir, an executive for service and engineering at Texlink Engineering Limited, told the New Nation.
“If government ensures a business friendly environment, the entrepreneurs well be encouraged to make new investments in these sectors,” he added.
Innovative and technically updated spinning, knitting, washing, sewing, dying, finishing, testing and embroidery machineries and other equipments related to textile and garments industries showcased by the exhibitors.
Internationally recognised brands like Barudan, CTMTC, Fong’s, Jakob Muller, Karl Mayer, Groz-Beckert, LML, Loepfe, Santoni, Shima Seiki, Stall, Pai lung and many other companies took part in it.
Last year more than a thousand machines were sold during the 4-day events and total of US$200 million on spot orders was received, according to the organizers.
