Staff Reporter :
Country’s apparel sector after the post pandemic has started gaining momentum with the rise of the work orders compared with the previous years.
The readymade garment (RMG) sector analysts opined that the wheels of all garment factories are running round the clock which clearly indicates the high demands of product for export.
According to the statistics of the first two weeks of March, a total of $ 163 crore worth of RMG products had been exported. It was $ 101 crore during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
The work order received in January this year compared with the corresponding period of last year has seen a rise by 63 percent.
The total amount of work order for exporting RMG products in January this year was $375 crore which was $230 crore in January 2021.
On the other hand, the export work order has gone up by 32 percent in February this year which was an amount of $263 crore. It was $200 crore in February last year.
As the month of February is 28 days, so naturally the production and exports level goes a little bit down compared with other months.
Sources said the country’s export oriented sectors have again started rising up after the severe blow by the pandemic in last two years. Now the exports are going up every month.
The exports from the apparel sector have broken a record by $404 crore in December. It becomes $409 crore in January while the export was a bit down in February which was $351 crore.
Compared to the percentage of exports in March last year, it has gone up by 52 percent in this year.
Sources said the world’s apparel sector is solely dominated by China, which is carrying the status of the main exporters of RMG for many years. The volume of Chinese RMG products is more than the total production of the countries in second and third position.
Following the footprint of China, Vietnam is holding the second position in exporting RMG products.
Bangladesh had the medal of second position in RMG exports after China, but the country due to the pandemic lost its position last year to Vietnam.
The two countries -Bangladesh and Vietnam- are the arch rivals in the RMG exports.
But an air of convenience has now begun to blow in favour of Bangladesh.
Different brands and buyers from those two countries have now started diverting their export orders to Bangladesh due to various factors.
Sources said the international brands and buyers don’t want to take any risk in getting products in time for their showrooms.
Consequently, the brands and buyers have distributed the work orders among a number of countries. These buyers handed the work orders to China and Bangladesh as well.
So, the buyers have increased the volume of work orders now. In some cases this orders have been doubled.
The entrepreneurs believe that the additional orders have entered Bangladesh being divided from China and Vietnam for a number of reasons.
Both China and Vietnam are now in a production crisis because China has decided to keeps its industries shut down for three days in a week to cut carbon emission.
As a result, the production capacity of China has gone down to a great extent.
China after the world climate conference has closed hundreds of factories with red marks due to environmental reason.
As a result, the buyers of those countries are now looking forward to Bangladesh for products. So, naturally, the orders are now double and even some orders have been cancelled due to mounting pressure of production.
According to the report of World Trade Organisation, China holds the share of 31.6 percent in world apparel market while Vietnam is 6.4 percent and Bangladesh is 6.3 percent.
Concerned persons in RMG sectors said, Bangladesh is now obtaining more export orders from USA compared with previous years.
The US buyers are now indifferent to China due to the hostile relations between the two countries and the US government’s overcharging duties on Chinese products.
The sources said the production capacity of Bangladesh has been increased while the factories are also maintaining standard compliances for better work environment.
The volume of apparel exports will be more in the upcoming days, the sources said.
