Rizvi put on fresh remand

Court Correspondent :The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) placed BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on a fresh remand of five days in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station of the city on the charge of arson attack.Earlier, Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) and the Investigation Officer of the case produced Rizvi to the court with a 10-day remand plea on completion of a five-day remand in another arson case. Magistrate Aminul Haque of the CMM Court passed the latest remand order after hearing.On February 4, the BNP leader was placed on a fresh remand for five days in the case. Earlier, on January 23, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Narayanganj-bound bus of ‘Glory Paribahan’ when it was crossing Katherpool area of the city, that caused injuries to 31 passengers. Of them, one Nur-e-Alam, 40, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on February 1. Suspected blockaders allegedly threw two petrol bombs inside the bus and one of the bombs exploded.On January 24, Sub-Inspector KM Nuruzzaman of Jatrabari Police Station filed the case against 68 BNP and Jamaat leaders, including BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi , and a number of unnamed people, for the arson attack on the bus. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested BNP leader Rizvi from a house at Baridhara in the city on January 31. Later, on February 1, another court of Dhaka placed Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on a three-day remand in another case filed with Badda Police Station for torching another bus in Badda area of the city.
