BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has claimed that her party’s Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who himself is a lawyer, has been denied justice.
“The government is using State power to make the opposition leaders and activists politically crippled. Rizvi is in fact a victim of the government’s political vengeance. I think justice has not been reflected in Rizvi’s case,” she said in a statement on Thursday after a court sent Rizvi to jail rejecting his bail prayers in five cases.
Khaleda Zia also termed the rejection of the Rizvi’s
bail petitions, the BNP leader submitted. Earlier, Rizvi surrendered to the court seeking bail in the cases.
Of the five cases, two were filed with Pallabi Police Station and one each with Ramna, Khilgaon and Motijheel Police Stations for carrying out subversive activities during hartal and blockade programme sponsored by the BNP-led 20-party alliance in 2013 and 2015. Rizvi’s counssel Sanaullah Mia filed the bail petitions.
Besides, the court granted bail to the BNP leader in another arson case filed with Jatrabari Police Station, last year.
Earlier on August 11, another Dhaka court issued warrants for the arrest of 56 persons, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in two of the arson and violence cases, filed with Motijheel and Khilgaon Police Stations.
