A discussion meeting in observance of the World Rivers Day-2020 was held at Bangabandu Hall of Chattogram Press Club yesterday with Architect Engr.Mizanur Rahman in the chair. Noted Zoological Scientist Dr. Anisuzzaman Khan graced the occasion as chief guest duly attended by the General Secretary of Chattogram South district Awami league Mofizur Rahman, Environmentalist Prof. Dr.Md. Idrish Ali attended the discussions as special guest. Prof. Manzurul Kibria, Convenor of Halda River Research Laboratory & Prof of Zoology of Chattogram University presented keynote paper on World Rivers Day as principal speaker of the discussion meeting.
The chief guest in his brief deliverations discussed elalbortely the river and environment pollution.
He urged upon the residents of upper stream and lower stream areas of Halda, Sangu, Karnaphuli and Matamuhuri to become more aware and conscious about the river pollution so as to save the lifeline and biodiversity of Chattogram zone. He also suggested to work in three phases to get relief from pollution in Halda, Karnaphuli, Patenga.
Three phases suggested such as Govt, Non-Govt and private initiatives may be adopted to save from pollution.
