River transport repairing factory to be set up in Khulna

The government has taken decision to set up country’s first ever modern river transport repairing factory at the bank of river Rupsha in Khulna city.
Sources said the factory will be set up on 3.2340 acres of land at the city’s custom ghat area under Tutpara mouja.
Department of government transportation will set up the factory in assistance with Khulna district administration in a view to repair river transport especially speed boat, double cabin cruiser, different river vessels that usually used by police and RAB.
“We have already handed over the khas land for 99 years lease to the department of government transportation authority on April 17, 2017, said Md. Moniruzzaman, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Khulna.
He, however, said that the land ministry has approved the project.
Additional secretary Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, also transport
commissioner of the department of government transportation, received the deed from Khulna deputy commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, he said. Director (River) Shafiquzzaman, high officials of the transportation department and district administration, among others were present.
Transport Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed told BSS that the factory will have an international standard training centre.
“There is no recognized river transport driver training center in the country. Trained river transport drivers from this centre will get job home and abroad,” he said.
He, however, said, construction of boundary wall started yesterday, and hoped that construction works will begin next financial year and will end within two or two and half year, he said.
Besides, different other factories will also be set up there and over 1,000 youth will get employment opportunity, he said, adding that economical activities would be enhanced centering the factory.
