River Moyur being grabbed

The River Moyur is likely to be dried due to unabated grabbing and pollution. This river was originated from Beel Dakatia and flowing through Charmothuria and city’s Boyra area . This river was full of heavy current even two decades ago, but at present it is about to be dried up due to grabbing by illegal grabbers and also pollution.
Once people of Batiaghata,Dakop and Paikgachha bore goods by water transports upon the river. Trading became fruitful surrounding this river. Hundreds of fishermen families conducted their livelihood but it is a matter of fact that unplanned city protection embankment in 1982-83, obstructed the normal water flow of the river.
It is observed that both government and non-government structures, homesteads, shops and establishments were built on the both the sides of the river. Besides, garbage are being thrown from the adjacent Gallamaribazar and some clinics polluting the river Moyur .
Experts think, at first steps should be taken for the normal flow system of the river.
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has taken initiative for building Linier Park with a view to protect the river Moyur.

Milon Kumer Saha, Qudrat-e-Kibria and Dilip Kumer Datta, three researchers of Environmental Science discipline of Khulna University said, water of the river polluted due to mixing Brakisg colour and bad smell.
Dr. Mollick Anwar Hossain, Khulna Divisional Director of the Environment Directorate said, in order to save the river Moyur grabbing and polluting should be stopped.

Mahfuzur Rahman Mukul, Divisional coordinator of BELA said, to save the river Moyur from grabbing and pollution, a strong committee should be formed within a short time.

Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, President of Greater Khulna Development Coordination Action Committee (GKDCAC) expressed his deep concern as the river Moyur is being grabbed and polluted by a section of people.
