River Madhumati eroding houses, arable lands at Chitalmari

The river Madhumati that separates Chitalmari from Tungipara Upaazila of Gopalganj district is eroding dwelling houses, roads and arable lands of about seven to eight villages under Chitalmari Upazila in the district every day.
 As a result, innumerable villagers have been rendered homeless and they are now leading substandard life. The worst affected villages are Shialdaha, Bakpur, Kumira, Mochhondpur, Hariarghop and Paranpur.
Many of the homeless people are livening in the houses of others or in temporary structures. Children of those families are now deprived from education and nedicine.
Hasmat Ali, an old man from village Pranpur in Barabaria Union said that his dwelling house, homesteads, including six bighas of arable lands, had already been completely eroded by the river Madhumati.
