Aftermath of flood: River erosion intensified in Kurigram

The devastating erosion of the river Brahmaputra,Dharla and Tista are engulfing about five kilometers areas in Roumari Sadar,Ulipur,Rajarhat,Rajibpur,Bhurungamari and Chilmari upazilas in Kurigram district forcing five hundred families to be homeless within the last seven days due to increasing water level in the river during flood . .
Local sources said the houses of about five hundred families of Panchgaci,Kodomtala,Jatrapur under Sadar,Khedaimari, Baladmara, Ghughumari and Kherua under Roumari,villages have washed away.
Khedaimari village has already been eroded and Khateaimari Haat bazaar is also eroding rapidly.
 Meanwhile a portion of the bazaar has been eroded. Some non goverment place also eroding. About 150 houses and different shops are being dismantling and taking to safer places.
 The river side ill fated people are also removing their respecting houses to another places as well as in the houses of others rapidly in fear of river erosion.Local MP Ruhul Amin visited the erosion prone area and the matter was informed to Deputy Commissioner ABM Azad and Water development Board, they said.
MP Ruhul said the erosin is alredy demaged my elder brother’s house who is Ex-MP Golam Dulal recently. It also told that from District Agricultural Extension Office sources said,about 3460 hectares of land crops including jute,china,china nuts,vegetables and Ropa Aman seeds under flood water. Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board(WAPDA) Mahfujar Rahman told The New Nation on Friday that I have already informed of the news of river erosion in different upazillas of the district.
