Minister for Shipping Md. Shahjahan Khan MP said the river demarcation will be determined as per records of CS Survey as directed by the higher court of the country.
Besides, to sustain the safety of marine routes in Karnaphuli River , BIWTA will launch dredging programs in Kaptai Lake
This was disclosed by the Minister while addressing the 30th meeting of Task Force committee of the Ministry of Ports & Shipping at Chittagong circuit house hall yesterday as chief guest. Ports Ministry has arranged the meeting over the navigability of the important rivers and keep the normal flow of the rivers .
The minister said if the Karnaphuli is not saved, the activities of the main harbor of the country will be stranded and the country will have to face another disaster in global trade. In the meeting, Director General of Environment Directorate Raisul Alam told that there 133 industrial units on both banks of river Karnphuli and these industries regularly dumping effluents in the river.
The meeting was told that Karnaphuli Paper Mills is one of the great threat for river pollution and another paper industry Mac Paper Mills yet to established .
Among others city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Acting Secretary of the Ministery Ashoke Roy, Secretary of Law and Justice Abu Saleh Sheikh, Md. Jahirul Hoque, Chairman of National River Protection commissioner Dr. Ataharul Islam, Additional Secretary of Home Ministry Mostafa Kamaluddin, Additional Secretary of Shipping Ministry Md. Rafiqul Islam, Additional Secretary of Land Ministry Md. Akram Hossain, Joint Secretary of Local Govt Ministry Md.Enamul Kader Khan, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Ruhul Amin, DIG of Chittagong range Shafiqul Islam, port chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Md. Shahriaz were present on the occasion.
