Staff Reporter :At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of people at Shambhupura union under Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj on Wednesday.The clash involving residents of Chorkishoreganj and Chorhogla villages took place for establishing supremacy in the ensuing Sombhupura union parishad election.The rival groups, led by Nasir member and Harun Rashid, a member aspirant, fought with sharp weapons, fired gunshots and explored homemade bombs leaving at least 50 people injured including 20 bullet-wounds, witnesses said.During the clash, supporters of Nasir member vandalised 20 houses of opponent group, set fire to four motorbikes and one speed boat and looted money from a cash counter at a sand field. Manzur Kader, Officer In-charge (OC) of Sonargaon Police Station, admitted the clash and said the clash ensued between the supporters of Nasir and Harun of the village in the morning following an altercation between them. At one stage, both groups fought with sharp weapons, fired gunshot and home bomb, leaving 50 people injured. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, he added. He claimed the injured were admitted to local hospitals and clinics. A tense situation is prevailing in the village. Addition police force were deployed to avert any untoward situation.
