BSS, Kathmandu :
Bangladesh women’s football team forward Rituporna Chakma dedicated her only goal, scored against Pakistan, to her late younger brother.
Rituparna Chakma, entered the field as a substitute after the break against Pakistan and scored a goal in the 77th minute to seal the Bangladesh’s comprehensive victory in the ongoing SAFF Women’s Championship held on Saturday.
When her teammates were busy to celebrate after such a goal, Rituparna with a pale face folded his hands and looked up at the sky. The reason for her strange behavior after the goal was not immediately known, because she went to the team hotel with the team.
During the practice session at the Police army headquarters ground on Sunday, she, however, disclosed her somber celebration to the media by saying: “I dedicated the goal to my late brother Parban Chakma… When I scored the goal I prayed to God for him … He is no longer with us …My younger brother used to watch my play all the time. He would congratulate me
if I played well. If the game was bad, he would tell me where the problem was. When I scored that goal against Pakistan, I remembered my brother … In fact, I remember my brother all the time,” said Rituporna.
Parban Chakma was the only brother of four sisters in the family. He was very enthusiastic about his sister’s game. On June 30 last, Parban Chakma was electrocuted while fixing an irrigation pump in Kaukhali, Rangamati.
Rituparna Chakma came out of the country for the first time to play in an international tournament after losing her brother.
