In the last few days, the prices of daily commodities have increased step by step. Limited and low income people have suffered a lot. The middle class is also frustrated with shopping in the market.
At present most of the products including rice, onion, oil, chicken are being sold at high prices in the market in several areas of Sylhet City. Broiler chickens are being sold at Rs 160 to Rs 160 per kg in the market.
According to various shops in the city, soybean oil is being sold at Rs 155 to Rs 160 per liter and palm oil at Rs 135 per liter in Sylhet. Coarse rice (Swarna-Eri) is being sold at Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg and Miniket and Nazirshail rice are being sold at Rs 75 to Rs 60 per kg.
According to traders, imported onions are being sold at Rs 50 per kg, while local onions are being sold at Rs 40 to 45 per kg. Domestic garlic is being sold at Rs 60 per kg and imported garlic at Rs 150 per kg. Besides, potatoes are being sold at Tk 20 per kg, tomatoes at Tk 50, green chillies at Tk 60, brinjals at Tk 40, cauliflower at Tk 40, cabbage at Tk 30, radishes at Tk 40, papaya at Tk 25, beans at Tk 40 and carrots at Tk 50 per kg. Lemons are being sold at Rs 20 to Rs 30 per hali.
Meanwhile, the prices of vegetables are at a tolerable level but the fish and meat market is volatile. Pangas fish is being sold at 130 to 140 rupees per kg. Koi fish is being sold at 150 to 200 rupees, medium shrimp at 500 rupees, rui fish at 280 to 350 rupees, katal at 260 to 280 rupees and tilapia at 150 rupees per kg. Besides, chicken eggs are being sold at Rs 40 per hali. Beef is being sold at Rs 580 to Rs 580 per kg in the market.
A trader from Dargah Gate area said that the price of broiler chicken is only increasing. He said that the price has gone up as there is no supply as per the demand in the market.
A buyer named Maruf said that at present the prices of all daily necessities are high. The prices of oil, onion and rice are going beyond the purchasing power of buyers like us. Thus, due to the increase in prices, it is difficult to run a household with limited income.

According to health department sources, corona infection has been low in Sylhet division for the last three months. The rate of infection was hovering around zero to 1 percent. On December 8, 11, 14, 19 and 26, the infection rate was zero. In those days, not a single patient with corona was identified.
The rate of infection has started increasing since December 29. On that day, the infection rate exceeded 1 percent.
According to the health department, the corona infection rate in Sylhet division was 1.31 per cent on January 1, 0.42 per cent on January 2, 1.20 per cent on January 3 and 1.52 per cent on January 4.
On 5 January the outbreak of infection was seen. The infection rate was 3.14 percent that day.
On January 8, the infection rate was 2.6 percent. On that day 22 patients were identified. Which was the highest in the previous 95 days! Before that day, the health department had given information about 22 corona patients between 8 am on October 1 last year and 8 am on October 2 last year.
According to the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Department of Health, the infection rate was 1.61 percent between 8 am on Thursday and 8 am on Friday. At this time 13 corona patients were identified.
Since then, the infection has surpassed 3 percent in 24 hours from Friday morning till today Saturday morning. At this time, after examining the samples of 551 people, 18 corona patients have been identified.
The infection rate is 3.09 percent. Of the identified, 14 are from Sylhet district and the rest are from Sunamganj.
