The ruling Awami League (AL) has told the United Nations (UN) that the issue of human rights violation is being used as a tool of political propaganda in Bangladesh.
The ruling party said this when an AL delegation met with the visiting UN human rights delegation led by Rory Mungoven, chief of the UN Human Rights Commission’s (OHCHR) Asia-Pacific Region, at a city hotel on Thursday.
AL Information and Research Affairs Secretary Dr Selim Mahmood and Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nawfel took part in the meeting.
Emerging from the meeting, Mahmood told journalists that they informed the UN delegation that the issue of human rights violation is being used as a tool of political propaganda, reports BSS.
The UN delegation informed AL that many countries across the globe are facing the human rights violation problem, he said, adding that they (UN delegation) expressed interest to work with Bangladesh for protecting human rights here.
UN delegation chief Mangoven praised Bangladesh for progress in education, health and women empowerment, Mahmood added.
