UNB, Dhaka :
National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR), a non-government organisation, on Sunday urged the government not to extend the economic lifespan of CNG-run auto rickshaws again.
The NCPSRR chief adviser Manzurul Ahsan Khan, its presidentMohammad Shahid Mia and general secretary Ashis Kumar Dey made the demand in a joint statement on Sunday, a press release of NCPSRR said.
‘If the government approves the lifetime of the risky auto-rickshaws further on the face of the owners’ unethical pressure ignoring the concerned
experts and drivers, it would be quite illogical and threat to passenger’s safety,’ the statement read.
The NCPSRR leaders demanded that the authorities concerned should be strict against owners to stop taking daily extra money from drivers and urged the government to take steps against drivers who compel the passengers to pay extra fare.
The National Committee leaders made the demands against the backdrop of the auto-rickshaw owners’ demand to the government to approve 6-year extension of their auto-rickshaws’ lifetime again though they had earlier got 6-year extension in three phases after expiring economic lifetime of the auto-rickshaws.
