Covered van speeds away after ramming motor cycle from behind: Biker also escapes after taking her to hospital

Yet another private university student was killed when a covered van ploughed into the motorcycle’s rider in the capital’s Shyamoli on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Fahmida Akhter Labanya, 21, a third year student of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department of the BRAC University.
The student was headed to the university using a ride sharing service, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdur Rashid.
She was injured after being flung from the motorcycle when a covered van rammed into the vehicle from behind.The motorcyclist subsequently rushed her to the Suhrwardy Hospital in a critical state, where doctors on duty declared her dead.The covered van sped away after the incident. The motorcyclist also escaped after taking Fahmida to the hospital, the police official said.
Quoting witnesses, Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurul Islam said that Fahmida was going to the university using a ride sharing service when she met the tragic road crash around 11:45 am. She fell down onto the road from the bike when a covered van rammed into it from behind. The student was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) where she succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon.
The body was kept at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue. Hearing the heartbreaking incident, the family members and the classmates rushed to the hospital premises and they staged demonstration demanding the punishment of the covered van driver and biker, the OC said.
Nurul Islam said that rider Sumon also received injuries in the accident but he fled the scene with his vehicle after the accident, he said.
We are trying to trace the ride share, said Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Earlier, the Suprovat Paribahan bus had hit a woman pedestrian before running over and killing Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury in front of the city’s Jamuna Future Park on March 19.
