There is no restriction to ply rickshaw on service roads and by lanes in areas of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam disclosed the decision in a meeting with the leaders and activists of labour fronts at Nagar Bhaban in the city’s Gulshan on Wednesday.
“Only the valid rickshaws can run on lanes and bylanes from Kuril Biswa Road to Rampura. The rickshaws can take u-turn from Kuril,” the Mayor told reporters after the meeting.
Only nine kilometers of Kuril-Rampura Road and six km of Gabtoli-Mirpur Road will remain free from rickshaw, he added.
QR (Quick Response) code will be installed in valid rickshaws and a database of the pullers will be formed, he further said.
Rickshaw-van Sramik League Central Committee Assistant Organizing Secretary Bashir Ahmed, who took part in the meeting, expressed satisfaction at the decision.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (traffic) Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka North Division (traffic) Deputy Police Commissioner Prabir Kumar and Gulshan Division (traffic) Deputy Police Commissioner Mostak Ahmed, among others, participated in the meeting.
