Amar Ekushey observed: Rich tributes paid to language martyrs

The Immortal Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day was observed in districts as elsewhere of the country on Saturday with paying of glowing tributes to the memories of the language movement martyrs. Different socio-cultural , political organisations, educational institutions, professional groups and district administrations chalked out various programme s to observe the Day. Barisal Correspondent reports: Ekushey February and the International Mother Language Day was observed with due respect in Barisal on Saturday.
Thousands of barefooted people including BCC Mayor, lawmakers, high officials of divisional, district, police administration, teachers, students of Barisal University, members of Barisal Reporters Unity, Bangladesh Girl Guides Association, representatives of more than 200 socio-cultural-political-educational-religious, government and non government, voluntary organisations paid tributes to the martyrs of the language movement of 1952 by placing floral wreath at the alter of the Central Shaheed Minar of the city from Friday early hours to late morning.
Satya Sangbad and Barisaler Katha, regional dailies, jointly organized day-long voluntary blood donation and collection camp in collaboration with Sandhani SBMCH unit and Barkat General Stores in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city.
Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannya Parishad organized five-day long discussion and cultural programmes at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar from Tuesday to Saturday.
Charukala Barisal painted roads and walls surrounding the Barisal Central Shaheed Minar and Shishu Academy organized children-juvenile painting competition there on Saturday.
Karok Natya Goshthi distributed Adarsha Lipi, the book of learning Bangla alphabet, among the children following an alphabet writing competition at Shaheed Minar on this occasion.
Half mast national flags were hoisted on every house top and discussion meetings, cultural functions, painting, hand writing competitions were held by different organizations throughout the day on this occasion.
Special prayers were held at different religious prayer places and organizations for the blessings of the departed souls of the martyrs of the language and liberation movement and welfare of the country and nation.
Netrakona Correspondent reports: The Immortal Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day was observed here on Saturday with paying of glowing tributes to the memories of the language movement martyrs who laid down their lives in 1952 for establishing the Bangla as state language.
Different socio-cultural and political organisations, educational institutions and professional groups and Netrakona District Administration chalked out various programmes to observe the Day.
The day’s programmes were formally started at one minute past after zero hour of the day with placing of floral wreaths at Netrakona central Shaheed minar by deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy MP.
Then the Deputy Minister Joy was followed by deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Torun Kanti Shikder, administrator of Netrakona Zila parishad Motiur Rahman Khan, police super Netrakona Jakir Hussain Khan, public representatives, leaders of different political parties including Awami League and BNP and socio-cultural organizations and professional groups and local people of all walks of life.
As part of the programs, the national flag was hoisted at half mast atop of all the public and private buildings in the district at the sun-rising period.
An art and poetry recitation competition for the school children was held in the morning at local public library under the auspices of Netrakona Shishu Academy.
Netrakona district administration and district information office jointly arranged screening of documentary film show on ” the language movement” for local people at old collectorate office premises here in the afternoon.
A discussion meeting on “the significance of the Immortal Ekushey February” was held at the old collectorate office premises in the evening under the auspices of the district administration.
The deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy addressed the meeting as chief guest while deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Torun Kanti Shikder was in the chair.
Later, the meeting was followed by a musical soiree based on patriotic songs.
Sylhet Correspondent says: The International Mother Language Day was observed in a befitting manner in the Sylhet city and all the nine upazilas in Sylhet on Saturday.
 District Administration chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day.
The day’s programme started with placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar of City’s Saheed Hadis Park and upazila headquarters paying homage to the valiant language heroes who made their supreme sacrifices for the language movement of their loving mother tongue and her people.
Discussion meeting, rally, cultural function and art competition were organized in observance of the day. Discussion meeting, hand writing and art competition among school children, organized by Sylhet International University and Sylhet Metropoliton University and Leading University were held at the respective University campuses.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party, Sylhet City Corporation, Sylhet Press Club, Police administration, Sylhet Shishu Academy and different socio- cultural and various other organizations separately held discussions at their respective offices payaing tributes to the language heroes at Shaheed Minar at City.
Special prayers and munajat were offered at mosques, temples and churches for the martyrs and peace and prosperity of the nation.
Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj says: Amar Ekushey was observed in a befitting manner in Kishoreganj on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner, Police Super, Zilla Parishad Administrator, government officials, teachers and students of Kishoreganj and over 175 orgenisations including Kishoreganj Press Club and Girl Guides paid tributes from early hours and placed wreath at Kishoeganj town’s central Shaheed Minar at Gurudayal Govt. College premises. District Administration arranged a three daylong Book fair at old court premise making the day.

M.A. Afzal, Dr. Mazharul Hoque, Senior Adovcate Dolon Bhomik and Bar President Shah Azizul Hoque.
Dupchanchia (Bogra) Correspondent reports : The historic Ekushey February was celebrated paying homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952 by placing wreaths at Shaheed Minars under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra on Saturday.
Later, drawing, good hand writing and essay completion were also arranged marking the Day.
 People from all walks of life will placed wreaths at Shaheed Minar singing the chorus ‘Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami ki Bhulite Pari’, stand in silence for a while in honor of Salam, Barkat, Rafiq and Jabbar and other unnamed martyrs who were killed in police firing on this day in 1952 when they rallied for the recognition of Bangla as a state language of Pakistan.
 Upazila Nirbahi officer Saifur Rahman Khan said, ” We are pound of announcement by UNESCO in November, 1999 that it International Mother Language Day.” Assistant commissioner (land) Farzana Ferdous Zaman said, “We should preserve the day from our heart.” In this day, officer-in -charge Gopal Chandro Chocrobarty.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: “Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day” was observed in the city and it’s adjacent areas on Saturday in befitting manner paying rich tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
Various political parties and socio-cultural and volunteer organisations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.
At the zero hours and since early in the morning, streams of people irrespective of age and sex were seen walking barefoot singing “Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami ki Bhulite Pari” towards the nearby Shaheed Minars especially Rajshahi College and Bhuban Mohan Park to pay their deep respect to the heroes.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and the district and police administrations observed the day through elaborate programmes.
The programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and probhat ferry, discussion, cultural and literary functions. There were miniature national flags and colored flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets throughout the city streets.
Multifarious programmes like Quran Khwani and discussion at the Imam Training Academy, art and literary competitions for school and college students at Shishu Academy and Shilpakala Academy, serving improved diets to the inmates of hospitals, jails, safe homes and baby homes and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement were also organised in the city.
Marking the day, Language veterans were accorded reception at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
