The Jail Killing Day was observed by paying rich tributes to four national leaders and heroes of the Liberation War in Kishoregfanj yesterday. On this day in 1975, four national leaders were killed brutally inside the Dhaka Central Jail.
Kishoreganj District Administration, ruling Awami League, JASOD, Gonotantree Party, Gano-Forum and other organisations observed the Day through various programmes .
During the Liberation War, four national leaders- Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahamed, Home Minister Captain Monsur Ali and Shipping Minister A.H.M Kamruzzaman who led the Liberation in absence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 and earned independence for the nation.
Kishoreganj District Administration supported by Cultural Affairs Ministry arranged a mourning rally, discussion, Quran Khwani-Doa Mahfil, blood donation marking the Jail Killing day.
A memorial meeting was held at Porom Chattar yesterday morning while DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury in the chair.
Zilla Parished Chairman Adv Md. Zillur Rahman, District Awami League General Secretary Adv M.A Afzol and Acting Police Super Nazmul Islam attended as special guest.
It was addressed among others by Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, ADC (Gen) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, PP Adv Shah Azizul Hoque, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Adv Md Ataur Rahman, its General Secretary Principal Sharif Ahmed Sadi, District freedom fighter former commander Md. Asad Ullah, District Mohila Awami League Joint Convener Bilkis Begum, CAB Secretary Monour Hossain Rony and journalist Sakauddin Ahmed Rajon.
DC Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said the killing of the four national leaders was the continuation of the assassination of the Father of the Nation along with his family. Later, a mourning rally was brought in the town led by DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury .
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The mournful Jail Killing Day was observed in the city yesterday paying rich tribute to the four national leaders assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975.City unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-organizations observed the day through various programmes paying due homage to the martyred.Marking the day, scores of wreaths were placed on the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, in city’s Kadirgonj family graveyard besides mourning rallies and garlanding of portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman and four other national leaders at Awami League party office.
District and city units of Awami League and its front organizations brought out a mournful rally from in front of the party office and placed wreaths on the grave. Apart from this, various government, semi-government and autonomous organizations also placed wreaths since early morning.
City unit Awami League president and mayor of Rajshahi AHM KhairuzzamanLiton and other front-ranking leaders joined the rally, among others.
Marking the day, AL city unit organized a discussion meeting at the party office.
In observance of the day, Awami League arranged Quran Khwani, Doa Mahfil and feeding of destitute in all 30 wards of the city.
Besides, Rajshahi City Corporation, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Medical University, Zila Parishad and various other educational and financial institutions also observed the day in befitting manners.
