Rich Muslims urged to pay Zakat

Speakers at a seminar here on Saturday urged the rich Muslims to pay Zakat following the rules of Islam to help the poor to cut their poverty.
They said, if Zakat is collected and distributed properly, poverty will be alleviated from the society
The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Center for Zakat Management (CZM) jointly organised the seminar on ‘Exploring Potential of Zakat and its
Institutionalised Management’ at DCCI office in the capital.
Chairman of DCCI Foundation and Anwar Group of Industries Alhaj Anwar Hossain said almighty Allah makes Zakat mandatory for the rich Muslims as a tool for poverty alleviation from the society.
“We’ve to collect and manage Zakat in a planned manner,” he said adding that the poor relatives and well-acquainted persons should get priority in giving Zakat.
DCCI president Shahjahan Khan said all should ensure proper utilisation of Zakat fund for poverty alleviation, economic development and improvement of standard of living.
He stressed the need for strengthening Zakat management activities and institutions.
Center for Zakat Management CEO Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah said, “If we are able to utilise Zakat properly, we can alleviate poverty from the society.”
He called upon the businessmen to pay their Zakat to CZM so that they can use it collectively for poverty alleviation.
Associate Professor of International Islamic University, Chittagong, Prof Moktar Hossain, DCCI senior vice-president Osama Taseer and its vice- president Kh Shahidul Islam, among others, spoke at the seminar.
